A new disease profile is added to our database – Interstitial Cystitis (IC). Interstitial cystitis (IC) is a chronic disease with unclear aetiology. It commonly affects females. There are two types of IC: classic and non-ulcer disease, which differ in many respects, including response to different therapies. The symptoms can mimic those of other conditions, making IC difficult to diagnose. Symptoms of IC include chronic pelvic pain, a feeling of discomfort in the bladder or pelvis, pressure in the bladder, or a frequent and urgent need to urinate. A healthy bladder is shielded by a protective lining that helps block the effects of irritants in the urine from damaging the bladder wall. However, in patients suffering from IC, this lining breaks down. As a result, the bladder wall becomes inflamed and very sensitive. The possible causes for this disorder are puzzling to medical researchers. To receive a full description of this disease absolutely free of charge, please click here and send us a request. The profile was written by our consultant in internal diseases – Dr. Nikolay Botushanov, MD.
