PubMed, the Internet portal of biomedical and life sciences literature, indexed an interesting article, entitled “Acquired angioedema secondary to hormone replacement therapy” (Indian J Med Sci. 2005 Oct;59(10):451-4). Authors are Kumar MA and Gupta C from the Departments of Oncology, Pathology, Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, USA. Angioedema is a potentially life threatening condition and may be either inherited or acquired. The authors present a review of reported cases of hormonally induced hereditary angioedema, along with a report of a patient with acquired angioedema secondary to hormone replacement therapy. To the best of their knowledge, this case probably represents the first reported case of acquired angioedema secondary to hormone replacement therapy.
