PubMed, the Internet portal of biomedical and life sciences literature, indexed an interesting article, on “Subungual amelanotic malignant melanoma” (Saudi Med J. 2006 Feb;27(2):247-9). Authors are Arican O, Sasmaz S, Coban YK еt al, from the Alparslan Turkes Bulvari Baskose, Kahramanmaras, Turkey. The authors report a 61-year-old, male patient complaining from prolonged lesion on his great toe that has been previously treated surgically. Histopathological examination of toenail specimen revealed the presence of nests of atypical tumor cells that led to the diagnosis of amelanotic malignant melanoma.
