A new disease profile is added to our database – Paget disease (Osteitis deformans). It is a progressive, focal disorder of the bone remodeling. The most common clinical presentation is the pain. Predominantly involved are the hip, knee and ankle. Long bone involvement is characterized by progressive deformity. Patients with scull involvement frequently have band-like discomfort or headache, also can experience hearing loss. Neurological complications primarily develop in patients with scull and spine involvement and are among the most serious complications of the disease. A viral etiology has been proposed, but the cause of the disease remains unknown. About 15%-30% of patients have a family history of the disorder, so a genetic predisposition may exist. Both men and women are affected with a slight male predominance. To obtain more information about the disease absolutely free of charge, click here and send us a request.
