Description:
The support group for porphyria is an informal non-profit, non-party, voluntary, independent association of people suffering from various types of porphyria and their families.
A specialized porphyrias unit is operating in Bulgaria, combining diagnosis, treatment and long-term monitoring of porphyrias patients. It was initiated in the 60’s of the previous century by Prof. Emil Ivanov. Since 1994, the unit has been working on a functional basis in the Gastroenterology Clinic at University Hospital “St. Ivan Rilski” in Sofia.

The Association of Lymphoma Patients was created in 2006 and has been a member of the International Lymphoma Coalition since March 2007.

During the last years the situation of the people with rare diseases is getting better with the help of some European initiatives. In almost all European countries there are patient associations which strengthen the social position and the influence of the people with rare diseases, create contacts between people, concerned by the same disorder, spread information about diagnosis, health care, treatment and lifestyle of people with rare diseases. That’s why the National Alliance of People with Rare Diseases has enormous importance for all.

The main purpose of the National Alliance is to be a link between the people with rare diseases and the representatives of the social and healthcare system on the other side. The Alliance works for the protection of one of the principal human rights – the right of timely and equal medical care. The organisation also lobbies for the assumption of adequate laws in the field of the protection of the rights of the people with rare diseases.

Purposes and Activities
Fundamental purpose of the association is co-operating and helping Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia patients and other patients from all over Bulgaria in medical treatment, medicaments and appropriate dietetic foods supply, consulting medical sources and newest achievements in the field of fight against leukemia-like diseases, supporting these of them which are in difficult social conditions and these of them which have specific needs for their social adaptation and personnel realisation.
