In recent years, rare diseases have emerged as a priority area of public health in the European Union. On 27 November 2008, the Council of Ministers adopted the National Program for Rare Diseases to improve the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of people with rare diseases in Bulgaria. In this context, the conference sets out the following main objectives:
– to introduce the doctors, patients and society to the National Rare Diseases Program, its specific tasks and the opportunities it offers to the target groups;
– to identify at the expert level priority rare diseases for Bulgaria and to prepare proposals for actions to improve the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and social integration of patients, to increase the professional qualification of doctors in close cooperation with the national consultants and the medical scientific societies in the country.
– organize a workshop on the EUROPLAN project of the European Union to provide information on the different steps in developing a strategic plan and identifying best practices as well as exchanging information, models and data on effective strategies in the field of rare diseases.
